RUGBY IN WAUCHOPE

The Full Story

Wauchope Thunder Rugby Club was founded in 2014 by two mates, Marc Minor and Pete Daley at that came up with a great idea at the pub to start up a Rugby team in Wauchope. Rugby in Wauchope has a rich history and was played in the late 1800's and continued right up to the development of rugby league in the early 1900's.

History of Rugby In Wauchope.

Rugby in Wauchope began in the late 1800's starting with the first recorded team in 1891.

In 2015 the Men's team played in its first season in the Lower Mid North Coast Competition. We also fielded junior teams which played in the Port Macquarie Juniors Competition. These teams included 8's, 10's, and 12's. Wauchope Thunder was the first club to introduce Women's Rugby back to the Hastings area with many clubs now following in its footsteps. Since its introduction the ladies team has already tasted success with winning the "Lid" final at the Crescent Head 7's in 2015 and in 2017 Runners Up in the First Ladies Competition and winning the premiership in 2019 . In 2016 we moved to the Mid North Coast competition. We fielded a First Grade team and a Reserve Grade team. This was a massive achievement for such a newly formed club. Like a lot of businesses and teams Covid shut down the club in 2020.

2022 the club was resurrected and entered back into the southern mid north coast comp. This turned into the most successful year ever for our Men's team who took out the Premierships, minor Premiership and Steve Taylor spirit of rugby award. Wauchope Thunder also had the honour of winning at the Sunrise Hastings Sports awards, and took out the 2023 Men's senior team of the year.

Wauchope has a rich history of Rugby starting with the first recorded team in 1891.

We are working on some cool information that we have been researching into and will have this up on the site soon!
